Climate The best
time to visit Yercaud is during the warmer months
(May-Oct) as it is cooler here
than in the plains. Hence, tourist acitivity is high in May and June. The
climate of Yercaud is moderate, with summer
temperatures averaging 16-30 deg. celsius and
winters are fairly mild (Sep-Dec) with temperatures averaging
13-25 deg. celsius. During winter, the hills are covered
by mist and it looks
beautiful.
Language Tamil is the main language
here, but shopkeepers and cab drivers can usually understand
English.
Connectivity
Once known as
"the poor man's Ooty", as it is less
expensive than
either Udagamandalam
(Ooty) or Kodaikkanal, today Yercaud
is sought after much more as it is less
crowded and still retains its charm.
The annual
summer festival is in May
when there are boat races on the
artificial lake; flower shows and
fruits flood the stalls. Yercaud is known for
its orange groves, trekking and boating. Not
only is it popular with holidaymakers, but also with companies
who hold meetings and
conferences in these
pleasant surroundings.
