Climate The weather in West Bengal is
humid and hot in
summers and pleasantly cold
in winters.
Language The official language of
the state is Bengali, which is spoken in most
places, while Hindi and
English are spoken in tourist

high altitudes to the sea level plains. There are 15
Wildlife sanctuaries, 5 National Parks and 2
Tiger Reserves. The Sunderbans, in South
Bengal, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is home
to the famous Tiger Project - a conservatory
effort to save the
Bengal tigers from extinction. These
evergreen mangrove forests pulsate with
myriad forms of life, including the famous Indian one horned
rhinoceros.

, Jaldapara, Kolkata (the state
capital),
Kurseong, Mirik, Siliguri, Murshidabad, Bankura, Hooghly,
Malda, Vishnupur, Bardhaman and
Nadia.
Bengali cuisine is known for its fish
preparations (which is the staple
diet of the region) in a variety of dishes and of
course the sweets ('mithais')
which include the famous 'rosagolla,
sondesh and mishti
dohi'.
