Visakhapatnam or Vizag,

Naval Command headquarters. Along with its twin town

Climate Vizag has
a tropical type of climate with
excessive humidity. The scorching sun shines
brightly in the summers from b(with temperatures rising above
45 deg. celsius) with some pre-monsoon
showers in late June.
Monsoons are from bwhile cooler weather
prevails from Nov-Feb , where
temperature goes down to 18 deg. celsius.
Language Telugu is the most
prevalent language but one can communicate in basic
English in some tourist
places.
Vishakhapatnam
(Vizag), the second largest city in the state has also
developed oil refining, fertilizer, petro-chemical,
steel plant, sugar refining
and jute industries. This land of
Golden Beaches , a small fishing
village only half a century ago, is now an ideal tourist
destination.
No trip to Vizag is complete without
sojourns at Araku (110 km away, a
lovely valley amidst
the high Eastern Ghats); Simhachalam
temple (dedicated to Narasimha
(half man-half lion )'avatar ' of the Hindu god Vishnu;
with Chola and
Chalukya styles of architecture);
the Dolphin's Nose hillock projecting into the sea; Yarada Beach

charged to enter); Ramakrishna Beach (R.K. Beach with a Kali

and some Portuguese cemetery and church ruins);
Kambalakonda Sanctuary (a gorgeous
nature preserve); Jagadamba
Center (Can be considered as
Downtown ,
also housing the Jagadamba movie theatre, one
of the best movie auditoriums of yesteryears); Kailasa
Giri (a ropeway takes
you up this hillock, where one gets a bird's eyeview
of the city); War Memorial; Matsyadarshini
Aquarium; Borra Caves (fantastic
caverns with
thousand year-old stalagmite formations,
authentic and relatively unknown to the world); Ross
Hill; Submarine Museum
(one of its kind museum created in a real
(now de-commisioned) submarine 'Kursura' of
Indian Navy); Naval Museum; Buddhist
excavations at
Bojjana Konda, Thotla Konda, Bhavi Konda and
Salihundam.
