Tirupati, the holy city
is located in the southeastern part of Andhra Pradesh
, also
near the Tamilnadu / Karnataka border. It owes its existence to the
sacred temple of the Hindu god, Lord
Sri Venkateswara, situated on the
Tirumala Hill, 3200 ft
above sea level, and about 10.33 sq miles in
area.

Climate Tirupati has a
tropical climate. The summer
season prevails from Mar-June, with
temperatures going upto 45°C. Not much rainfall is received by the
region from the monsoons which are from July-Oct.
Winter is from Nov-Feb, with
temperatures going down to
10°C at Tirumala.
Language Telugu, Tamil and
English
(in some places) are the languages in this
temple town.
The range of
hills comprises of seven peaks , each believed to
be the hoods of the snake which protects and towers over the
Hindu god. With a
history that dates back to over twelve
centuries, the temple is the jewel in the
crown of ancient places of worship in southern India.
This abode of the
'Kaliyuga ' deity (also known
as Balaji), draws millions
of pilgrims and
is
believed to be the busiest pilgrimage centre in the
world. In fact, the government has
proposed to give special status to
the town on the lines
of the Vatican.
Tirupati town itself, has several
temples and is famous for its red wooden
toys, copper and brass idols. The
district has a number of perennial water
falls and vast forest
cover.
