Sikkim has the unique distinction of being bounded by three sovereign nations, Nepal in the west, Bhutan in the east and Tibet (now under China) in the north. Mt. Kanchenjunga , the third highest peak in the world dominates the landscape of the State and is revered as Sikkim's guardian deity. River Teesta is the lifeline of Sikkim, originating from Lake Cholamu . Gangtok is the capital city.

Climate
The climate of Sikkim varies from subtropical in the south to very cold in the north. But the inhabited regions are very pleasant through the year and Sikkim is one of the few states in India to receive regular snowfall. Heavy rains occur during monsoon seasons, making the state extremely difficult to access.
Language
English, Hindi, Sikkimese, Tibetian
and Nepali are the main languages. Other languages spoken include Bhutia, Lepcha, Bengali and various dialects.
Connectivity
Sikkim is connected by air through the airport at Bagdogra (Domestic); and has two important railway stations - Gangtok and New Jalpaiguri and a fairly good system of roads. Chopper services are also available for tourists visiting Sikkim.

Amidst the grandeur of the mountain peaks, lush valleys, glaciers, fast flowing rivers, hills, hot springs, lakes and monastries , Sikkim offers her visitors a rare and singular experience.
The main inhabitants of the state are the Lepchas, Bhutias and Nepalis. Essentially divided into 4 districts, North, South, East and West, the state has quite a few things for the visitor...

In North Sikkim: Mangan, Yumthang, Lachung , Kabi Longstok, Phodong Monastery, Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, Thangu and Gurudongmar .

In South Sikkim: Namchi, Ravangla, Temi Tea Garden, Sikip.
Sikkim offers best buys for hand woven carpets, thankas and other paintings. Other items typical of the state are large cardamoms, Lepcha weave bags, purses, jewellery and liquor.
