This
land, though smaller than most Indian states, has five
rivers running through it and hence 'the land
of five rivers.' With the yellow fields
and blue mountains providing a
romantic and picturesque backdrop, very few
have gone back without imbibing the essence of
Punjab
. An avid tourist can spend days engaged
in its long cultural history, which would
include a visit to the Golden Temple at Amritsar.

More about
Punjab
Climate Punjab has four seasons -
Summer (Mar-Jun), when temperatures rise upto
48 deg celsius in June, Monsoon
(Jul-Sep), Autumn (Oct-Nov),
and Winter (Dec-Feb), when
temperatures go down to 0 deg celsius in Jan.
Language The official language is
Punjabi, but Hindi
and English are also spoken in most
places.
Connectivity Punjab is well connected
by air routes, railway and
roads to the rest of
the country. There are several
museums and religious
places. The Quila Mubarak and the
famous Golden Temple at Amritsar are visited
by thousands of people every year, many of them with more than
just religious inclinations. The Sikh
religion of the Punjabis has given rise to
several gurudwaras (Sikh places of worship, which
essentially do not have a diety) in Punjab and nearby states. Jalandhar
and Ludhiana
are two of the major cities
in Punjab.
Punjab is divided into
three natural regions: the
Majha, the Doaba and the
Malwa. Since this state borders
Pakistan , there are two main posts from
which you can peep into the land that was once an integral part
of Punjab and experience the feelings of people separated by
a line. Most Punjabis can be recognised anywhere with their
beards, colourful turbans (an essential part
of their attire) and majestic look
.
Punjabi
cuisine is famous in Europe and other parts of the
world for its Chole Batura, a
variety of Indian breads and of course, this is the state
which gave Paneer Butter Masala and
it’s non vegetarian variant - the Butter Chicken
Masala, to the
world. |
