More about
Orchha
Climate The climate of Orchha
is temperate. Summers
(April-June) are not too hot while
winters are cool
(November-February) and pleasant. It
experiences southwestern monsoon rains in
July-Sep.
Language The main languages are
Hindi and English (in tourist
spots).
The most
noteworthy of the historic buildings in
Orchha are the Raja Ram mandir, a
massive square building of which the exterior is almost
absolutely plain; and the Jahangir
mahal, of the same form but far more ornate, a
singularly beautiful specimen of Hindu domestic
architecture
.
Numerous cenotaphs dot
the vicinity of the fort and the
Betwa river. Elsewhere about the
town exist fine temples and
tombs, among which may be noticed the
Chaturbhuj temple built on a vast
platform of stone. Orchha's monuments unlike
quite a few other places in this region are not bare stone.
They generally seem to have a plastering
on
them.
The
speciality sweet of Orchha is
kalakand (milk cake) and is sold in
the square in front of the Raja Ram Mandir.
