A variety of birds and animals can
be found in the wildlife sanctuaries and
national parks around Kanha, Pench, Panna, Bandhavgarh and Rohet
, while rare Himalayan
species are
found in Corbett, Binsar, Nanda
Devi
and Valley of Flowers.
North India has been the
historical center of the Maurya, Gupta, Mughal
and British
Empires .
It has a rich and diverse culture, with
world heritage sites at Agra ,
Fatehpur Sikri
, Delhi, Khajuraho ,
Bhimbetka and Sanchi near Bhopal
.
The Thar Desert, unique
in its terrain has some heritage cities like Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Ajmer
. These
oases in the middle of the desert have
palaces, havelis and forts
which have been converted into palace hotels
where one can experience royalty while
vacationing.
The prime language in North India
is Hindi. Several dialects of Hindi are
spoken in different states, along with Punjabi,
Kashmiri and others. North India plays a very vital
role in the formation of Government in India
with a large number of seats in the lower house of
parliament. Many Indian Prime
Ministers hail from North India.
The climate in North India is
predominantly subtropical, with cool
winters, hot summers and moderate
monsoons. Some areas have
diverse climate - extreme
temperatures have ranged from -45 °C
in Dras, Jammu
and Kashmir to 50.6
°C in Alwar, Rajasthan .
