Climate
The climate of Nainital is regulated by the lake which showers rain almost every afternoon. Pleasant most of the year, it is very cold in winter . The best time to visit is from Apr-June and in Sep-Oct. Snowfall occurs briefly from Jan-March.

Mr. P. Barron, a European merchant and an enthusiastic hunter from near Shahjahanpur founded Nainital in 1841, and wrote: "It is by far the best site I have witnessed in the course of a 1,500 miles trek in the Himalayas."

Places of interest in and around Nainital include Naini Lake, Snow View Point (which gives a closeup view of Nanda Devi peak - 23448 ft), Naina Peak, Hanuman Garhi with the temple, Bhowali (known for its hill fruit mart and for its T.B. sanatorium), Ghorakhal & Lord Golu temple, Sat Tal (cluster of lakes amidst an oak forest), Bhimtal lake & town, Naukuchiyatal lake with nine corners (offering excellent opportunity for angling, bird watching, rowing, paddling and yachting), Kainchi Dham pilgrim centre, Mukteshwar (an old Shiva temple on a rock), Upat Kalika (the best mountain golf link in India - 9 holes), Chaubatiya Garden, Bhalu Dam, Hairakhan Dham, Kausani (a town offering a wide view of the Himalayan ranges including the Trishul and Nanda Devi peaks, also housing Anashakti Ashram, where Mahatma Gandhi spent some days), Baijnath (on the Gomti river banks with 13th century temples) and Jageshwar (100-odd temple complex with Buddhist architectural influence visible in the carvings).
