At an altitude
of 3660 ft. in the Aravali
hills, standing out like an oasis in
arid environs, Mount Abu, the only
hill station of Rajasthan boasts of a rich
vegetation and thick forest. It
stands on an independent hillock and
separated from the main Aravali ranges by a deep
gorge.

Climate Mount Abu experiences a
moderate climate with dry
and sunny summers, not too hot
(average temperatures 12-34 deg. celsius), and mild
and pleasant winters (average
temperatures 5-26 deg. celsius).
Language Rajasthani, Hindi and
English are the main
languages.
Several
interesting stories tell the tale of the
formation of Mount Abu. One cannot but be impressed with the
grandeur of the gigantic rocks towering the
crest of the hill, which present some fanciful and weird
shapes. Legend goes that a
'yagna' (an elaborate Hindu ritual
performed by sacrificing things big and small to
Agni, the Fire God)performed here saw the creation of
four Rajput clans - the
Chauhans, Parmaras, Pratiharas and
Solankis
- from the fire.
Mount Abu is also a major Rajput
and Jain pilgrimage centre
. Its pleasant climate and picturesque setting invite
thousands of tourists.
The
three-day summer festival celebrated in June
is popular. Amongst the tribal cultures that
you get a glimpse of at this festival are those of the
Bhils and the Nagas, who perform a
fantastic tribal dance called the
Ghoomar
.

include the Adhar Devi Temple, Andhra Point
(Honeymoon Point), Dilwara Jain Temple,
Gaumukh, Nakki Lake, Toad Rock, Red Temple, Shri
Raghunathji Temple, Sunset Point, Ambaji, Achalgarh,
Guru Shikar, Ranakpur and Mount Abu Widlife
sanctuary.
