Climate
At an altitude of 3000 ft, it is pleasant  in the mornings and evenings which is the right time for a  safari. In summer, it gets a little hot and dry in the day and evenings are cold in winter. The best time to visit the  sanctuary is between Sep-May.

Tamil, Kannada
and Malayalam are the main languages, but English is also spoken and understood in some places.

Masinagudi / Mudumalai is famous for its elephant habitat and also home to gaur, chital, sambar, tiger, panther, sloth bear, Indian giant squirrel, flying squirrel, wild dog and birds like the Malabar grey hornbill, crested hawk-eagle and serpent eagle.

Accommodation in Mudumalai is in a forest rest house and guest houses are also there at Masinagudi, Kargudi, Abhayaranyam and Theppakkadu. Apart from the van, jeep, elephant safaris and night drives, one can visit the elephant feeding camp, museum, Moyar river, Kallatty falls and Pykara Lake.
