pleasant throughout the year, with
the temperature ranging between 16 and 20 deg. celsius in
summer and 10-15 deg. celsius in
winters.

Once
considered a British territory, the

'Malcolm Peth'. The bungalows,
churches, the Club, the polo ground and race
course - all these constructed during the British
period still lend a charming sophistication to the town.
Today, the
hill-station is very crowded during
vacations like Christmas and Diwali and in
summers. Not only a favourite holiday spot, Mahabaleshwar is
also a popular pilgrim place with many
temples located around the town. It is the
source of the Krishna River that flows
across the states of Maharashtra
and Andhra Pradesh
.
Mahabaleshwar is also known for the honey and
strawberries produced here. You can visit
many strawberry farms nearby.
Places
of interest in and around Mahabaleshwar include the
Roman Catholic Church, Mahabaleshwar Club,
Morarji Castle, Pratapgad Fort,
Krishna and Mahabaleshwar Temples,
Lingmala waterfall and Venna Lake
(boating amidst the fog is a thrilling experience). Various
view points around the hill edge looking out over the
flat-topped ghats, dense
forests and lush green valleys
below include Lodwick Point, Elphinstone Point,
Arthur's Seat, The Window, Kate's Point, Wilson Point and
Helen's Point at the Blue Valley. Mahabaleshwar is close
to another scenic hill station Panchgani.
