More about
Khajuraho
Climate Summers are very
hot with temperatures touching 47
deg. celsius, and winters are
pleasant with temperatures going down to 4
deg. celsius. Rainfall is mostly in the months of July and
August. The best time to visit Khajuraho is
from October to April when it is
pleasant.
Language The main languages
are Hindi and
English.
Constructed with
spiral superstructures, the temples in
Khajuraho adhere to a northern Indian
shikhara temple style and often
adhere to a Panchayatana plan
or layout, which is essentially four subordinate shrines on
four corners and the main shrine in the center of the podium,
which comprises their base.
The temples are grouped into
three geographical divisions:
western, eastern and
southern. A few of the temples are dedicated
to the Jain pantheon and the rest to the
Hindu trintity deities -
Brahma, Vishnu and
Shiva, and various Devi
forms (Devi Jagadambi
temple).
The Khajuraho temples do
not contain sexual or erotic art inside the temple or
near the deities; only some external carvings
bear erotic art, which are actually part of depictions of the
life cycle of man.
