Climate The weather
is humid
most of the year, hot in summer and cool in winter. The
monsoons are very active here, so
do check the conditions before travelling, though the best time to see lush,
green Kerala is just after the
monsoons.
Language The main language in Kerala is
Malayalam; English and
Tamil are spoken in a few tourist
places.
ConnectivityThe
state has major international airports
at Trivandrum
(Thiruvanthapuram), Kochi
(Cochin) and Kozhikode (Calicut)
that link the state with the rest of the
nation and the world.Driving down National Highway no.
17, from the northernmost point to the southern tip is a
wonderful way to see the state by
road.
Popular
destinations include the beaches at Kovalam, Cherai
and Varkala;
the hill stations of Munnar, Nelliampathi,
Ponmudi and Wayanad;
national
parks and wildlife sanctuaries at Thekkady / Periyar
and
Eravikulam
; the hilly
forests of Wayanad, with their lush greenery and tree

The
"backwaters" region comprises an
extensive network of inter-connected rivers, lakes, and canals
that centre on
Alapuzha
(Alleppey), Kumarakom and
Punnamada (where the annual Nehru

held every Aug).
The
Vembanad Lake extending from Ernakulam to
Kollam (Quilon)
down South is a district by itself,
where life revolves around the
waterways, with boats supplying everything from
groceries to furniture. The Kuttanad rice fields are worth a
visit where one can see a unique way of paddy cultivation
below sea level.
Kerala cuisine is
becoming popular the world over, especially the fish
