The 300 year old Bekal fort , an imposing circular structure of laterite stone rising 130 ft. above sea level, is of great historical and archaeological interest as the largest and best preserved of its kind; and the land on which it is situated runs into the sea with a fine bay towards the south.

About 10 kms down south, a cruise in a speed boat down the picturesque Chandragiri river, takes you around evergreen islands and coconut palm groves. Nileshwar is another quiet locale where the beauty of a small stream joining the sea takes your breath away.

Near Kasargod, en route to the popular hill station Ponmudi, a favourite haunt for trekkers, anglers and bird watchers is a picturesque locale called Kallar (from the river of the same name flowing in the region). The Golden Valley with its rapids and small pools and Meenmutty waterfalls nearby are added attractions.

Kasaragod, the cradle of many colourful art forms and folk music of Kerala, is acquiring prominence in the tourist map of India as 'The land of Yakshagana and Theyyam', two classical Kerala dance forms.

Other places in and around Kasargod worth visiting are Pallikere Beach, Bekal Hole Aqua Park, Malik Deenar Mosque, Kanhangad / Hosdurg Fort, Kappil Beach, Anandasaram (spiritual centre), Ananthapura Lake Temple, Valiaparamba backwaters, Central Plantation Crops & Research Institute, Ajanur temple, Pandiyan Kallu, Jain temples, churches and Kanwa theertha Beach.
