Climate
The weather is dry, short, hot summers (Mar-June), which end once the usually mild monsoon sets in around June, making it cool and pleasant. The winter months (Oct-Feb) are mildly cold and dry.
Language
The official language is Kannada but English is spoken in major tourist locales.
Connectivity
Karnataka has one international airport and three regional airports which connects the state with the rest of India. Rail and road connectivity is also good. Overnight / express trains connect most of the tourist locales within the state. Karnataka has launched a Heritage train - "The Golden Chariot", traversing through Karnataka, going up to Goa, on the lines of the famed "Palace on wheels".

A visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites at Hampi with the ruins of the Vijayanagara Empire, the temple monuments of Pattadakal, the rock cut cave temples at Badami are all sure to transport you back in time! The 14th to 17th century Hoysala temples at Hassan, Belur and Halebidu, built with Chloritic schist (soap stone) and the world’s tallest sculpted monolith of Gomateshwara (Jain monument) at Shravanabelagola, are awe-inspiring sights.

Several wildlife sanctuaries, national parks and forests in Bandipur, Kemmangundi, Nagarhole / Kabini and B.R. Hills offer various modes like elephant safaris, jeep safaris and night safaris to view animals in close quarters. Coffee for most Indians comes from the coffee plantations at Chickmagalur and Coorg / Kodagu . The beaches at Malpe, Byndoor, Maravanthe, Gokarna and Karwar are sure to take your breath away.

Angling is a recent sport that has developed in the waters of river Cauvery which flows through Dandeli. Mysuru (Mysore) serves not only as a base to several nature and adventure camps but is also famous for its silks, sandalwood oil and soap. Bengaluru (Bangalore) , the state capital, is known as the Silicon Valley of India with its numerous IT companies.

Karnataka cuisine is popular for its Mysore masala dosas, chutneys and several other vegetarian dishes. Distinctive Coorgi cuisine and many regional specialities are to be savoured on a visit.
