More about Hyderabad /
Secunderabad
Climate The city observes
three main seasons -
summers from Mar-June
(average temperature 25-40 deg. celsius),
monsoons from June-Oct and winters
from Nov-Feb ( average temperature
13-28 deg. celsius).
Language Telugu, Hindi, Urdu,
Hyderabadi (a local slang which is
an interesting mix of Hindi, Urdu and Telugu) and
English are the main
languages.
The city's ancient civilisation, nearly
400 years old, is visible in its mosques and
minarets, bazaars and bridges,
hills and
lakes. Modernisation has
brought about a natural and sophisticated blend
of old and new, an old
'Nawabi' culture mixing
with a new
pro-active approach and hospitality.
The teeming
bazaars of the old city amidst the
400-year-old Charminar (with its
four graceful
minarets) and the Golconda
Fort are today very much a part of the city as the
modern shopping complexes and ultra-modern malls in
newer areas. Cyberabad (Cyber City) is a
whole new area created to keep pace with the zooming
information
technology & tourism sector.
Shopping is a pleasure here as
the prices are much cheaper compared to the rest of
India. Pearls,
bangles, silks, computer software, handicrafts and
above all a delectable cuisine add
to the splendour of this great
city.
Hyderabadi Biryani and
Mirchi Bajjis are the iconic dishes
of the region. Other culinary delights include
Qubani ka Mitha, Double Ka Mitha
and Pheni - sweet
delicacies, Nahari Kulche or
paya and
Haleem (meat dish traditionally eaten
during
the holy month of Ramzan). Also
widely found on street-corners are cafes that offer
Irani chai (a tea variety),
Irani samosa and Osmania
biscuits.
Attractions in
and around the city include Ramoji Film City
(world’s largest integrated film studio
complex),
Chowmahalla Palace, Buddha statue at
the Hussian Sagar lake, Falaknuma
Palace, Salar Jung Museum (housing the largest one-man
collection of antiques in the world), Taramati
Baradari, Mecca Masjid (a stone mosque),
Birla Mandir (Hindu temple built of stark white
marble), Purani Haveli, King Kothi
Palace, Qutb Shahi Tombs, Birla
Planetarium, Lumbini park, Botanical gardens,

theatre and Sanjivaiah
park), NTR gardens, Laad
Bazaar or Chudi Bazaar (for its
exquisite bangles, jewelry and
pearls), Paigah Tombs, Sanghi Temple
and the APIIC Tower at Manchirevula (proposed to
