More about Goa
Central
Climate Goa enjoys a tropical
climate with hot summers from
Apr-mid June, heavy monsoons from end-June to
September and cool winters from end-Sep to
March. Goa receives the full blast of the
Indian monsoon with sudden
downpours and tropical
thunderstorms. However it is also during the monsoon
that Goa is probably at its most beautiful,
with greenery sprouting all
around.
Language Along with English which
is widely spoken all over Goa, Konkani,
Marathi and Hindi are the main
languages.
The
Vainguinim beach overlooks the
Mormugao Bay. Spread over a vast
expanse of land, Bogmallo beach is
not much visited by tourists, hence retains its charm, making
it one of the cleanest as well as the most peaceful
beaches of the
state.The cluster of small shack
restaurants on the beach serve a variety of
seafood and Feni,
the Goan drink. Naval Aviation
Museum is one of the major tourist attractions near
the Bogmallo Beach.
The
Miramar Beach is on the way to
Dona Paula, a km ahead of the
confluence of the Arabian
Sea and Mandovi River. The
word 'Miramar' in
Portuguese stands for viewing the sea and it
is the most popular beach in Goa to watch the
sunset. It is not safe to swim here because
of the strong undercurrent.
The beach front of Goa's one of the largest and
beautiful village Cansaulim is
Arossim. The beach is
reasonably safe for swimming. The beach front
is very beautiful and not very crowded. Once on the beach you
can visit the sixteenth century Church of
Sao Tome (St.Thomas the
Apostle).
Just before Easter, all Goans
celebrate the Goan carnival, an absolutely
colorful and lively festival. The entire
state is decorated with streamers, colorful ribbons and papers
and the whole of Goa comes alive. The history of the Goan
carnival goes back to almost 500
years.
