Gangtok, at a height of
5,500 ft, is the capital of Sikkim
and a unique hill resort in North East

Climate Gangtok enjoys a mild temperate
climate with a temperature of around 23 deg. celsius
in summer and around 6 deg. celsius during
winter and rains all through
the year in regular intervals like in all
hillstations.
Language
The main language in Gangtok is
Nepali. But Hindi, English, Bengali
and Tibetan are
spoken and understood by a large part of the
population.

objects are housed within the complex, and one of the most
magnificent is the Golden Stupa containing
precious relics.

organized regularly at the Flower Show Venue
near the White Hall complex is another
attraction for the tourists. Sikkim offers best
buys for hand woven carpets,
thangkas and other
paintings. Other items typical of the state
and are large cardamoms, Lepcha weave bags,
purses, jewellery, liquors
etc.
Places of interest in and around
Gangtok include Institute of Tibetology &
Museum (with around 30 thousand
volumes, translation of the original teachings of
Lord Buddha, and a rare collection of
antiques like statues and
thangkas), Deer Park, The
White Hall, Enchey Monastery, Tashi View
Point, Himalayan Zoological Park (also known as
Bulbuley, the wildlife
here include the red panda, barking deer, bears and
other rare species), Do-drul Chorten
(Stupa), Institute of Cottage Industries
and Ganesh Tok (temple).
