There are a variety of outdoor activities you can do in Coonoor. Bird-watchers can have a great time watching cormorants, pipits, parakeets, thrushes, nilgiri verditer, skylarks, etc. Sim's Park has a collection of more than a 1000 plant and flower species spread across 12 hectares.

Coonoor is connected to various other hill-stations on the Nilgiris by the toy train , which also offers exhilarating views of the mountains. Tea Gardens around Coonoor are aplenty and strawberry plantations are soon picking up. View-points around Coonoor include Lamb's Rock and Lady Canning's Seat.
