Chickmagalur is also called the coffee town of Karnataka , abounding in coffee plantations. Other than coffee, pepper and cashewnuts are also grown. Mullain Giri, the highest peak in Karnataka (6,317 ft ) is 12 kms away from here.

Chickmagalur boasts of many interesting places around like the beautiful Hoysala temples - the Kodandarama temple, the famous temples of Halebid and Belur, the Rambapuri Mutt at Balehonnur, the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, the picturesque Kemmangundi peak, the green valley at Kalasa, Baba Budan Range (Mountains), Inam Dattatreya Peetha (a laterite cave , holy place for both Hindus and Muslims), Horanadu, Gangamoola (Samse - origin of three main rivers) and a major iron ore mine of Asia - the Kudremukh mines .
