Chandigarh is as famous for its landscaping as for its architectural ambience. Most of the buildings are in pure, cubical form, geometrically subdivided with emphasis on proportion, scale and detail.
The Capitol Complex is Le Corbusier’s most spectacular work. The magnificent edifices, set against the Shivalik peaks, stand as massive concrete sculptures, representing the monumental character authority that the complex represents. It comprises three epoch-making master-pieces: the Secretariat, the High Court and the Legislative Assembly.
Chandigarh has 3245 hectares under forest and most of it is hilly. An educative 8km long trek, organised by Chandigarh Adventures Treks and Sports (CATS) is all about learning about the environment and runs over three hillocks and has a steep gradient. It originates at Nepli Forest Lodge and ends at Kansal Forest Lodge.
Chandigarh's Rock Garden, constructed by Nek Chand, using waste material like ceramic pieces, cement bags, etc. is unique in its own way and worth a visit. The famous Rose Garden is also a beautiful place where some amazing varieties of roses can be seen.
