Binsar falls in the
Kumaon region of Uttarakhand (Uttaranchal)
state. The summer capital of the erstwhile Chand
Rajas (7th - 8th century), Binsar is a picturesque,
sleepy hamlet. Perched at an altitude of 7260
ft, at the most scenic spot in the Kumaon Himalayas,
Binsar offers a majestic view of the
snow covered Himalayan peaks.

Climate Binsar is cool
in summers, and cold
in winters, with snowfall
from Dec-Feb. The best seasons to
visit Binsar are from Apr-June and
Sep-Oct.

From Binsar,
you can be mesmerized by the views of the Himalayan
ranges Chaukhamba, Trishul, Nanda Devi, Shivling
and Panchchuli. From here, on a sunny day, you
can have a glimpse of the holy shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath
and
Gangotri.
The
Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is home to many
rare Himalayan animals, birds and
wild flowers. Encompassing 50 sq. kms in the
middle Himalaya, this forest abounds in leopards,
deer and wild boar. Binsar is also
a trekker's paradise. One can trek in the
salubrious air, amidst misty mountains, in
the forests of Himalayan Oak and
Rhododendrons.
This sleepy hamlet amidst
orchards, silver streams and green meadows,
has much more to offer. An epitome of serenity and
tranquility, surrounded by abundant garlands of alpine
flora, ferns, hanging moss and many other species
of wild flowers
, this is as close as you
can get to heaven.
Places of interest in and around Binsar
include Jageshwar Temple (100-odd
temple complex with Buddhist architectural
influence visible in the carvings) and
Patal Bhuvaneshwar (a
6000-year old underground cave
complex).
