Climate
The weather in Alapuzha (Alleppey) is usually pleasant with no extremes in climatic conditions. A couple of summer months Apr-May are hot (average temperatures 22-35 deg. celsius) and winters are cool with temperatures varying between 18-30 deg. celsius. Jan-Apr and Aug-Oct are the ideal months to visit Alleppey. Monsoons are heavy from June-Sep and if you love rains, you can always visit Alleppey during monsoons.

The way of life in Alapuzha (Alleppey) revolves around the waterways, with boats supplying everything from groceries to furniture. In a boat cruise along the backwaters, one can experience the life style - toddy tapping, fishing for small fry, coir-making and prawn farming, which has remained unchanged over the years.

Alleppey is the ideal headquarters for backwater tourism as well as for visits to the 10th century Karumadikkuttan statue, a black granite figure of Buddha; the lovely town of Kottayam (with its profusion of churches); Aranmula town (famous for its speciality hand-crafted mirrors and the annual Nehru Trophy Snake Boat Race held every August); the Kuttanad rice fields (where one can see a unique way of paddy cultivation below sea level); Ambalapuzha village (the Sreekrishna temple, conforming to typical Kerala style architecture, also serves the famous sweet milk porridge 'pal payasam'); and the water-logged Champakulam village (home to the oldest angadi (market) as well as the two popular snake boats which participate in the Snake Boat Race.
